Food Allergen

Food Allergen Awareness

This course is designed for food practitioners in facets of the food industry (production, processing, packaging, distribution, retail and catering).

An estimated 2 million people suffer from various food allergies, and hospital admissions for complications related to food allergies have spiked 500% between 2005 and 2020. In December 2014, new rules introduced regarding allergens and allergen labelling; current compliance (legal and regulatory) protocols require all food practitioners to be well conversant with food allergens.

There are no cures for food allergies, they can only be managed. The food industry must therefore comply to the Food Safety Act 1990 & Food Information Regulation 2014 that ensures consumers are well informed of allergens in whatever they consume.

The Food Allergen Awareness Courses prepare all levels of practitioners in the catering and food industry for Food Information Regulation compliant knowledge and certification; participants receive instruction on:

  1. Food allergy and intolerance
  2. The 14 regulated allergens
  3. Food labelling requirements
  4. The importance of practical allergen management
  5. Providing complete and accurate allergen information to consumers
Food Allergen Awareness Courses:
  1. Foundation Certificate in Food Allergen Awareness (level 2)
